On Thursday June 6th, during the guided tour, the participants will have the opportunity to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Matera.
Matera city is located in the region of Basilicata, in Southern Italy, at a distance of about 70 km from Bari. The town lies in a small canyon carved out by the Gravina. Its historical centre “Sassi”, along with the Park of the Rupestrian Churches, was awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO since 1993.
For the year 2019 Matera has also been declared European Capital of Culture. More details about the programme of Matera 2019 are available here.
The social excursion is foreseen to begin in the early afternoon. A guided tour (about 2 hours, in english) has been organised for the participants. The way back to Bari is expected in the early evening.

The social dinner will be in Covo dei Saraceni, Polignano a Mare (BA) on Friday, June 7th.
Elegant atmosphere, gourmet fish dishes and fantastic terraces overlooking the sea will frame the Conference banquet.
